Auspicious is August

I am your fire says the Sun

burning eyes that stare deeply

into its hypnotic reign

warming waters that embrace

the Summers final days

and upon evenings request

a darkened sea of stars

shelters its first blue moon

fireflies rising like meteors across the sky

begging for infinite observation

and with unabashed declarations of sovereignty

Lions’ lovers give way to Virgins’ clarity

as this year has rounded its last corner

farewell my August

43

talking to the moon

asking to stay in your sky

each breath memorized

as its soft light fades into

your incomplete sea of stars

42

beneath the cover

of our broken umbrella

are pictures lost in

my solitary shadow

walking alone without you
